Blowfish Designated

After using approximately 617 relievers in last night's 12-inning victory, the Yankees decided to call up a reinforcement. Scott Patterson joins the big club, and to make room, Morgan Ensberg has been designated for assignment.

The Blowfish was a worthwhile experiment, as it wasn't too long ago that he was an all star threebie for the Astros, and we were able to sign him to a minor-league deal. He made the opening day roster, but since then, his biggest accomplishment has been guest-blogging on Phil Hughes' blog (which is apparently on hiatus). Anyway, Phil hasn't been using his time off to blog; maybe he'll let Ensberg take over for a bit now.

For what they paid, Ensberg was a good gamble. He didn't work out. No big loss in the end. I'm sure he'll find work elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Patterson has been monstrous in the minors. Let's hope that translates into big-league success.

Ensberg down, Hawkins to go.

Good to see NBC's Don Giese is far enough along in his recovery to probably be getting called up for Tuesday's game.
